You have a Magento 1 webshop and Magento is discontinuing support, now what?

As every Magento webshop owner already knows, Magento 1 will no longer be officially supported by Adobe as of June 2020. This means that no updates and security updates will come from Adobe.

What exactly will happen is a frequently asked question that we regularly hear. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a simple answer to that question. It is certain that Magento 1 is not expected to immediately pass away. Simply because Magento 1 has often been made aware of security issues and bugs by the community in the past. So it is expected that this community will still continue to do this after June 2020.

However, this does not alter the fact that you will ever have to transfer. Whether this is with Magento or with another webshop system is of course a personal matter. In our eyes magento is and will remain the webshop system. Certainly for the professional web shops there is no doubt about this (in our opinion then ..;)).

If You Make The Switch But Magento 2, It Is Wise To Think About A Number Of Matters.

  • Do you want to keep the current design or do you switch to a new design that meets the current requirements.
  • If you choose a new design, a template is an interesting option. These are often cheaper as a unique design. Make sure you look closely at a template that is regularly updated by the builders and that it is well put together in terms of SEO, optimization and user-friendliness.

  • Keep in mind that a Magento 2 webshop will not function optimally on a Magento 1 hosting platform. Other requirements and specifications are associated with this.
